About the delimitation and the State: for a geographical reading of Carl Schmitt. Carl Schmitt’s work is introduced through the reading of two essays: Land und Meer (1942) and Der Nomos der Erde (1950). Both of them, at different degrees, reflect upon the basic relationship in which the “earth” and the “sea” – during the various ages of the world’s history- have been contrasting elements, so that they became immaterial spaces. According to S., this condition takes place with the discovery of the new world from the europeans and it will give birth to what he defines the original phase of “thought for global lines”. Analysis of a process of globalization which is read eminently in a political vision, until it became a crisis factor either of the modern State or of the international rules. This process is linked to the concept of nomos, which constitutes the primary act of appropriation, delimitation and distribution of a given space. This paper tries to value the geographical implications linked to the above mentioned themes, also considering the contribution that Ratzel had given either of the earth and sea relationship or of the problem of the State. At the same time, it is suggested a short comparison between S., and Marx, about the nature of the “political”, relating it to the political reality of the twentieth century.\ud L’opera di Carl Schmitt viene introdotta attraverso la lettura di due saggi: Land und Meer (1942) e Der Nomos der Erde (1950). Entrambi i lavori, con respiro differente, riflettono sul fondamentale rapporto in cui la terra ed il mare – nel corso delle diverse epoche storiche – sono stati elementi contrapposti, fino a divenire spazi immateriali. Tale condizione si realizza, secondo Schmitt, con la scoperta del nuovo mondo ad opera degli europei, e darà vita a quel che egli definisce fase originaria del “pensiero per linee globali”. Analisi di un processo di globalizzazione che viene letto eminentemente in chiave politica, fino a divenire fattore di crisi dello stato moderno e degli ordinamenti internazionali. Questa dinamica viene, poi, collegata al concetto di nomos, che costituisce il primigenio atto di appropriazione, delimitazione e distribuzione di un dato spazio. Il contributo cerca di valutare le implicazioni geografiche legate ai suddetti temi, anche alla luce degli apporti che lo stesso Ratzel aveva dato sia in riferimento al rapporto terra-mare che rispetto al tema dello stato. Allo stesso tempo viene proposto un breve confronto tra Schmitt \ud De la délimitation et de l’État: pour une lecture géographique de Carl Schmitt. L’œuvre de Carl Schmitt est introduite par la lecture de deux essais: Land und Meer (1942) et Der Nomos der Erde (1950. Les deux écrits, de différente envergure, réfléchissent sur le rapport fondamental entre la “terre” et la “mer” qui – au cours des diverses périodes historiques – les a amenées à devenir des éléments opposés, jusqu’à se transformer en des espaces immatériels. Selon Schmitt cette condition se vérifia avec la découverte du nouveau monde par les Européens, en constituant ce qu’il a défini la phase originaire de la “pensée par lignes globales”. Une analyse du processus de globalisation qui est lu essentiellement en clef politique, pour devenir enfin un facteur de crise de l’état moderne et des rapports internationaux. Cette dynamique est ensuite liée au concept de nomos qui représente l’acte originaire d’appropriation, de délimitation et de distribution dans un espace donné. L’objectif fixé est donc d’essayer d’évaluer les implications géographiques des thèmes mentionnés à la lumière des apports que Ratzel lui-même avait donnés aussi bien lorsqu’il se référait à la relation entre la terre et la mer que lorsqu’il abordait le thème de l’état. Parallèlement est proposée une brève comparaison entre Schmitt et Marx, à propos de la nature du “politique” et en relation à la situation politique à la fin du vingtième siècle
